Overview

NewYork-Presbyterian’s original one-page brochure was created as marketing material to promote their leading medical centers across the five boroughs. Over time, this brochure was used by patients and their friends and families as a map to locate their hospitals. However, since the brochure was extremely text-heavy, many people had difficulties finding the information they needed.

What I Did

The Public Relation’s team approached me with the one-page brochure they had and tasked me to redesign it by reprioritizing the information architect and including visuals pertinent to further assist readers in finding the information they need. Additionally, the redesign must consider NewYork-Presbyterian’s branding (colors, typography, etc.) and retain the Facts and Financials data.

To validate the redesign from a user standpoint, I took the initiative to conduct user research at the lobby of Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The goal was to understand who our primary users are, what information they look for, and any pain points during the process. For example, most users skipped over the Facts & Financials section as they found it not relevant and, some users pointed out when they search for addresses on Google, they will take an extra step to look for the image of the location because it was helpful for them to find the correct place.

Based on the findings, the must-have features are the medical center locations and improving the maps’ visuals to the buildings' images. In addition, since the Facts and Financials section must be retained in the redesign, the information architecture will be reorganized to meet the patients' needs and friends and families.

After several iterations, I am proud to present NewYork-Presbyterian’s brochure redesign. I utilized both the front and back of the page, giving more breathing room to include images and content. In addition, the statistics highlighted NewYork-Presbyterian’s leadership in the health and hospitals field in the Facts and Financials section. To ensure users do not skip this section, the numbers are bolded to contrast with regular text, highlighting its importance.

People who use this brochure can now easily find the medical center addresses, and the images will help them locate the correct building a lot faster when they arrive at the location.
